The Recreation Restoration Infrastructure Grant Program (RRI) is meant to fund rehabilitation and restoration of developed recreation trails and areas so those areas can be accessed safely by the public. They aim to alleviate some backlog of maintenance, priority going to the areas with the highest levels of visitation. Funds can help with trails, day-use areas, campgrounds, water recreation infrastructure, etc.
Projects using the grant must be completed within 24 months of signing the contract and four progress reports are required through the 24 month period. Up to 75 percent of the funds can be given prior to the completion of the project, the last 25 percent are contingent upon the inspection of the completed project.
